How to Track Hurricane Florence in TAS Online

As Hurricane Florence approaches, the only questions remaining are when and where will the storm make landfall. Using our Geo Feeds feature, TAS Online users with write-access can utilize the National Hurricane Center’s GIS data to plot the storm’s Cone, Track, and Warning data. Leveraging this information will ensure your team is ready to address the inevitable stress accompanied by the storm.

The National Hurricane Center data can be found at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gis/

Following the steps outlined below, we can utilize the Hurricane Florence data from TAS Online. We will be using the following:

Cone data: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/api/AL062018_CONE_latest.kmz

Track data:  https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/api/AL062018_TRACK_latest.kmz

Warning data: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/api/AL062018_WW_latest.kmz

Please contact your organization’s administrator to gain access to the Geo Feeds feature.

Adding Geo Feeds in TAS Online:

  1. Open TAS Online, expand the Sources drop-down menu, navigate to the Geo Feeds folder and click the + button to add a new Geo FeedGeo Feeds
  2. Enter a name for your new Geo Feed, assign a URL, enter a description and then click “Save” (see example image below)

  3. To access the new Geo Feed, expand the Sources drop-down menu, navigate to the Geo Feeds folder, and click on the Geo Feed (Example:

  1. The Cone data should now display on the map with a corresponding layer listed in the legend.

Please note: if point information is available it will be displayed within the Info form upon clicking on the related point.  The screenshot below is taken from 1 of the points included in the Track data, specifically the point at which the storm makes landfall.
